Welcome to the Somers High School PTSA!

The SHS PTA will maintain its commitment and service to all children and to its diverse membership through increased parent and community awareness, advocacy, education, and involvement. The SHS PTA will be a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child.

Your membership goes a long way! These are some of the great things your PTA can do with your membership and fundraising:

We bring Guest Speakers on important topics relevant to all High School students, such as the dangers of texting and driving.
We provide Teacher Grants to enable them to purchase enhanced teaching tools for all students
We provide scholarships to graduating Seniors
We assist with fun activites such as Freshmen Orientation, Field Day and Senior Activities
And So Much More!

Meeting Dates for the 2025/2026 School Year- All are invited to attend! - All are welcome to volunteer - you don't need to attend meetings to volunteer. We need all types of volunteers.

There are volunteer opportunities with several groups, including the Somers Historical Society, Ronald McDonald House, YMCA Team Leaders Club, and the Somers Litter Task Force - Let's Talk Trash - Waiver

The SHS PTSA Executive Board, Education Committee, and the SHS administration have developed a suggested guide of ideas to assist in the parenting of children and adolescents.

The Somers High School PTSA Education Committee presented a topic entitled: Valuing Diversity and Fostering Resilience during Challenging Times which was led by Dr. Joseph Franco, who is a professor in the graduate and doctoral programs at Pace University.

8th Grade Orientation	Provide an information packet for parents the evening of the 8th grade orientation. The evening is for parents of current 8th graders.
Class Parent Committee	The purpose of the Class Parent Committees is to work with students, their faculty advisors and school administrators on social events, community service projects and fundraising throughout the students’ four years at SHS.
Class Parent Committee Treasurer	Maintains permanent records to track unit funds and financial transactions
Class Parent Committee Recording Secrtary	Responsible for all non-financial PTA records and communications with the PTA membership
Class Parent Committee Corresponding Secrtary	Conduct correspondence of the association as directed by the president, the executive board, or the association
Council Delegate	Represent the SHS PTA at monthly council meetings. The council delegate speaks and votes on behalf of SHS PTSA members and reports on council activities at SHS PTSA meetings.
Driver Safety	Coordinate Driver Safety Program to help prepare our teens to be careful and responsible drivers. The date (February/March) for the following year is set at the end of the current year after confirming with speaker. Promoting event, coordinating with school administrators and registration for sign in purposes.
Education Committee	Meets monthly to discuss pertinent educational issues. Organizes a yearly community service fair. Provides yearly speaker to discuss issues related to the academic, social, and emotional growth of our children.
Volunteer Fair	Recruits and manages the volunteer team.
Fundraising	CSAT/ACT Boot Camp - Coordinate online boot camps with Learn the Playbook to hold fall and spring sessions and promote in-home opportunities.
	Essay Workshop Boot Camp - Coordinate summer essay workshops for incoming seniors.
	Flowers/T-shirts Fundraiser - contact Commencement Flowers, Inc. for date. Company brings everything needed.
	Clothing Fundraiser - Organize and promote collection of used clothing and many other items. Held in the spring.
Graduation Hospitality	Organize the decoration of the tent and a reception for graduation.
Grants	Reviews and gives recommendations on teacher's mini-grant applications, to reimburse them for projects that enhance education.
Membership	Encourages parents, students, teachers and staff to become members of the SHS PTSA. Collect dues and maintain an accurate list of members.
Parent/Student Programs	Provide information and education to parents and students on various subjects.
Red Ribbon Week	A national anti-substance abuse campaign. Works closely with the Student Assistance Counselor to develop and then help administer a program which will make our children stop and think twice about making unhealthy choices.
Reflections	A program that encourages an awareness of the arts. Every year, a new theme is selected. All grade levels (K-12) are encouraged to participate in one of four ways: musical composition, literature (including poetry, prose and drama), visual arts (including drawing, painting, collage and printmaking), and photography. The work will be judged by competition, and the program culminates with national recognition and awards. Program runs September through December 1 for submissions.
Scholarship Fundraising	Coordinates fundraising activities to fund senior scholarships.
Scholarship Selection	Distribute scholarship information and applications to SHS seniors. Reviews applications and selects recipients.
SEPTA Representative	Represent the SHS PTSA at SEPTA meetings to share information between both PTA units.
Staff Appreciation Lunch	Plans and coordinates lunch for the entire SHS Staff as a thank you.
Faculty Representive	A SHS faculty member represents the staff at our PTA meetings to report on faculty news, and returns information back to the staff at their meetings.
Student Representative	Students are welcome members of the PTSA, and have a representative voice at every meeting.
Website	Responsible for the SHS PTSA website content and design.
General Volunteers	Any parent can be a volunteer to help at any PTSA function.
